Searching the Spencer County Court Docket
MyCase is where a Spencer County court docket search starts. Pick Spencer County from the menu. Then search by case number, citation number, cross reference, person, business, or attorney, and narrow things further with court, category, status, or filing-date filters. Spencer Circuit Court case numbers begin with 74C01.
Before opening a CCS, glance at the case style, type, filed date, and court to be sure you have the right matter. Events read in time order. When the case or a document is not online, call or visit the Spencer County Clerk, or mail a focused written request naming the number, caption, record, date range, copy type, and how you want delivery. The online view is unofficial. For certified copies and current balances, the Clerk is the source of truth.
- Open MyCase and choose Spencer County.
- Use an exact number or narrow name search.
- Confirm 74C01, the case type, and filed date.
- Read CCS events from oldest to newest.
- Ask the Clerk for missing, plain, or certified records.
MyCase Fields for Spencer Dockets
MyCase offers four search modes: Case, Name, Attorney, and Advanced Search Options. A Case search takes one key at a time. Choose from case number, citation number, or cross reference. Name search handles last, first, and middle names, date of birth, business names, and a sounds-like option. Advanced fields add status and filing dates.
| Search key | Best use | Spencer check |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Exact match | Starts with 74C01 |
| Name or business | Number unknown | Add court, type, and dates |
| Citation | Violation matter | Preserve all zeroes |
| Cross reference | Linked identifier | May differ from CCS number |
Results cap at 1,000, and a CAPTCHA may appear. Tighten your terms rather than reading a broad list as a complete county index. See the official MyCase interface used for Spencer County.

Pick the correct court and search key first, the screen makes plain, before you open a CCS.
Inside a Spencer County Court Docket
A CCS is a timeline of judicial events. It can show the case number and style, filed date, status, parties, attorneys, charges or claims, hearings, motions, orders, judgment, disposition, and financial activity. Public document icons sometimes open a filing. Not every event has an online file, though.
| Case Number | Spencer court, year, type, and sequence. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Names and roles that are public. |
| CCS Events | Filings, settings, rulings, and court actions. |
| Hearing Detail | Date, type, and public location fields. |
| Status | Open, closed, or other state with date. |
| Disposition | The outcome, read apart from the first filing. |
One docket event is not the whole file. The document behind an entry may hold the detail you need, and a transcript sits apart as a separate court-reporter record.
One Spencer Court Code Matters
Spencer Circuit Court is the county's one current trial court. State identifier 74C01 is the key local check. The official directory lists no current Spencer Superior, Probate, County, or city court, and the historical Spencer/Rockport City Court code 74H01 is marked abolished. Rockport, Santa Claus, Dale, Grandview, and Chrisney keep no separate present-day court dockets. Their county trial cases route through Spencer Circuit Court and the Clerk. A town clerk-treasurer handles municipal business, not the circuit CCS. Review the official Spencer County court page.

The state page anchors local searches to today's structure, not an abolished city court.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Spencer County
The county CCS covers Spencer Circuit Court matters. Federal cases belong to the Southern District of Indiana's Evansville Division, reached through PACER or CM/ECF. Appeals run through Indiana appellate systems. Those records carry different numbers, so a federal or appellate identifier will never surface in a 74C01 search.
| Court | Record | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Spencer Circuit | County trial cases | MyCase, then Clerk |
| Indiana appellate courts | State appeals | Appellate systems |
| Southern District | Federal cases | PACER or CM/ECF |
Adult Drug Court and Family Recovery Court are circuit programs, not separate courts. Their supervision and treatment records carry added access limits.
Spencer Dockets by the Numbers
Certified 2024 statistics reported 4,799 new cases in Spencer Circuit Court. The breakdown: 950 criminal, 1,224 civil, 2,343 civil-violation, and 282 juvenile filings. Dispositions totaled 4,854. There were 5,425 matters pending at year end. These are aggregates, not counts of unique people.
Infractions accounted for 2,342 filings. That is why citation and category filters earn their keep. It does not mean every filing is public or ended in judgment.
Spencer County Docket Search Checks
A solid Spencer County court docket result should survive several checks. Match the court code and full case number first. Then compare style, filing date, category, and current status. Read related cases and cross references without assuming they describe the same proceeding. A shared name alone is weak evidence. That risk grows when a broad search floods you with rows. MyCase lets you sort by case number, filing date, case style, and status date. Sorting can bring a likely match into view without changing the underlying search.
Older cases and documents may offer less online detail. Spencer's move into Odyssey helps explain that boundary. It sets no firm date before which all records vanish, though. When a known matter will not surface, gather the approximate year, party names, case type, and any old cause number before contacting the Clerk. That gives staff a focused request and lowers the odds of mixing up two records.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Start with hearing events in the Spencer County CCS. Note the case number, date, event type, court, location, judicial officer, and whether a later entry continued or canceled the setting. The newest court entry controls over an old printout. No Spencer court participates in Indiana's separate Court Calendar. That does not mean Spencer has no hearings. Confirm with the Clerk or Circuit Court at 812-649-6025, since a generic county civic calendar lists meetings, not judicial settings.
If dates conflict: Check the latest CCS event and order, then call the court before travel or a required appearance.
Spencer Court Calendar Limitation
The statewide calendar gives you filters for county, court, date, case number, and party name. It looks back seven days and ahead four weeks. Text searches stop after the first 100 results. On August 23, 2026, Spencer's options showed no court at all.
That empty selector is a portal limit, not proof of idle courtrooms. For a real Spencer County docket search, MyCase and a call to the clerk are the dependable routes. The court posts no online daily calendar of its own. Confirm hearing dates directly rather than guessing.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Indiana courts lean toward openness. That presumption puts most Spencer County court docket records within public reach. Rule, statute, or order can still carve out exceptions. Access also depends on who is asking, since public users, parties, and attorneys may each see different material, and a party code can reveal more documents than an anonymous search does.
Key rules:
Access Rule 1 states the purpose and presumption.
Access Rule 4 gives the general access rule.
Access Rule 5 lists confidential and sensitive categories.
Administrative Rule 9 addresses calendars and requests.
That public-records law won't unlock everything. Indiana's Access to Public Records Act does not make confidential judicial records public, so when a full filing is restricted, ask the Spencer County Clerk for a redacted version.
Spencer Records Missing Online
A missing case has many possible causes. It may be confidential, sealed, expunged, or old. It may also be incompletely indexed or searched with the wrong key. Even when a document is restricted, its CCS event can stay visible on the docket. Juvenile, CHINS, adoption, mental-health, medical, financial, witness, and treatment information all carry strong limits. Check your spelling, case number, court, date, and category. Then ask the Clerk whether the matter is public, redacted, confidential, sealed, expunged, or simply not online, and request the precise CCS entry, order, judgment, filing, transcript, or copy. A blank docket search proves nothing.
Spencer County Docket Versus Case File
The CCS and the case file answer different questions. A Spencer County court docket entry tells you when an event was entered. It also gives the event a short label. The file holds the documents behind those labels. That means public complaints, petitions, answers, motions, returns of service, orders, and judgments. MyCase may show a document icon beside a CCS event. A missing icon can just mean the document is not online. That does not mean it is absent from the courthouse file.
Want to read a public filing? Ask for inspection or a plain copy. Don't request certification by default. Certification matters only when an official copy is truly required. Transcripts run through a separate court-reporter process, and local rules allow page, minimum, expedited, exhibit, or binding charges. Property instruments sit with the Spencer County Recorder. Incident reports belong to the police or sheriff agency involved. Those offices do not hold interchangeable records, so precise routing saves time.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
The Spencer County Clerk keeps the court records, Judgments and Orders, and the CCS. The office sits at 200 Main Street, Room 8, Rockport, Indiana 47635. Listed weekday hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call first. The county lists 812-649-6028, but a state directory shows 812-649-6029, so verify the number through the county page.

Spencer Dockets Entered Odyssey
Odyssey is Indiana's case-management system. MyCase is its public web layer. The state describes Odyssey as supporting CCS events, search, calendars, fees, and payment history, and Spencer Circuit Court's listed implementation date is August 24, 2020.
Spencer County moved to voluntary e-filing on February 21, 2018, then to mandatory filing on April 23, 2018. E-filing delivers documents to the court, but public access still comes through MyCase or the Clerk after acceptance. A rejected envelope may never become a CCS event.
The state's own page covers how Odyssey powers the docket. Read the official Odyssey overview.

The timeline explains why old paper indexes and newer online records differ.

Spencer Court Docket Request Details
Name the record you want. Don't ask for everything tied to a person. Include the Spencer County case number if you have it. Add the case style, the approximate filing year, the event date, and the title of the order or filing. Say whether you want inspection, an electronic copy, a paper copy, or certification. Ask the current cost and delivery options before paying. Spencer County publishes no official form for ordinary court-record requests, so clear written details do the practical work of one.
The Clerk can say whether a record is public and explain the office's copy process. Staff cannot interpret legal rights. They also won't choose a filing strategy. Hit confidential material in a filing? Request the available public or redacted version. For a hearing transcript, identify the date and proceeding, then ask the Circuit Court about the court reporter. Kept this narrow, a Spencer County docket request stays traceable and easier to answer.

Local Rule AR00-3 puts the courthouse under magnetometer/x-ray screening with bag checks; weapons are barred and recording/cameras/photos require written judicial authorization, so leave devices off or silenced.
